Driving digital transformation in Stockholm’s schools

In a strong collaboration between SISAB, Myrspoven, Schneider Electric and Init, Stockholm’s public schools are undergoing a digital transformation that’s making them smarter, healthier, and more sustainable.

For more than ten years, SISAB – The Stockholm School Property Company – has been investing in energy and continues to deliver strong results in energy optimisation year after year.

Together with Init and Myrspoven they are setting new standards for smart buildings and energy optimisation. Read on to learn more about this exciting collaboration.

ASPIRATION

Optimising energy & comfort in 600+ public schools

SISAB faced the challenge of maintaining optimal indoor climates while reducing energy consumption and environmental impact.

Even though it was already one of the best-performing building operators in the region, SISAB aspired to push the boundaries of efficiency and comfort even further by leveraging intelligent automation to proactively manage building operations.

The company has partnered with Init and Myrspoven to reduce energy consumption, maintain good indoor quality, as well as open up to grid integration to help the grid to balance during peak hours.

Many see us as a guiding star in the industry when it comes to digital transformation, and the pace of change in the building sector is very fast. Hence, to be the best, you must set high standards so you can work with the best, constantly challenge the ‘this-is-how-we’ve-always-done-it’ mentality, and find collaboration surfaces between multiple suppliers and us as the client – we need to put our smart heads together.

SOLUTION

AI-powered climate control for real-time optimisation

In 2020, SISAB started the implementation of their AI-based control system, SOLIDA, together with tech company Myrspoven. So far, the intelligent system is deployed across more than 150 properties – covering over one million square meters.

Working closely together with Myrspoven and SISAB, Schneider Electric and Init is handling system integrations of BMS, implementation of AI, upgrades, backup management, as well as application development within and around SOLIDA.

By combining structured digitalisation efforts with advanced AI-powered optimisation, Init helped transform building operations into a proactive, data-driven discipline.

We focus on ensuring that the organisation, processes, and IT and OT infrastructure are prepared and tuned to deliver top-class results. In a short time, we’ve developed additional new innovative solutions that strongly enhance SISAB’s operational efficiency, save time, as well as contribute to a better working environment for their operations managers.”

RESULT

Smart buildings for healthier learning environments

Working with AI as an agent for finding the balance between energy and comfort has been a learning journey and the impact has been substantial. For example, average indoor temperatures have increased by 1°C, fault reports have dropped by 23%, and energy consumption has been significantly reduced: 4.8% savings on ventilation and 4.5% on heating.

These improvements were achieved through real-time operational fine-tuning, even in buildings that were already highly optimised.

As a result, SISAB has achieved:

  • enhanced thermal comfort
  • lower environmental footprint
  • increased customer satisfaction

From SISAB’s control tower, experts now monitor more than 600 schools, manage 200 alarms daily, and support maintenance teams citywide. This project demonstrates how Init’s expertise and SOLIDA’s intelligence are shaping the future of public education infrastructure.

About SOLIDA

SOLIDA continuously optimises indoor climate and energy use based on real-time data and predictive algorithms. It operates on top of SOL, SISAB’s building automation platform based on Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Building Operation.

SOLIDA uses real-time data and predictive algorithms to continuously fine-tune indoor climate and energy use. Thousands of temperature and CO₂ sensors feed into the system, enabling 24/7 intelligent control.

Furthermore, SOLIDA enables real-time monitoring of radon levels through integrated radon sensors. When thresholds are exceeded, ventilation systems are automatically adjusted to maintain healthy indoor environments.
